2009 Club Presentation Night held
St Oliver Plunkett's GAC held their Annual Club Presentation night on Saturday 6th February 2010 in the club function rooms. Despite the event unfortunately clashing with a number of other events, a good number of club members, players and parents attended the enjoyable night.

The evening began with a finger buffet, and following the meal Paul Bradley made his first address as club Chairman. He thanked the 2009 committee, referees, underage managers and the senior management team of Hugh Mulholland and Jude Donnelly, who returned to the club for the night's celebrations having stepped down from their positions at the end of the season. He also thanked special guest for the evening Fr Oliver Crilly for coming along to the night and for his promotion of both the football and camogie clubs since his arrival in the parish and over the last year.

Paul went onto highlight the need for more help from all club members to ensure the development of the club on and off the field over the coming year, while wishing the new committee well for the year ahead. He also encouraged everyone to support the events organised in the near future including 'Jigs and Reels' which is scheduled for the 19th and 20th March and the club Golf Day on 4th June 2010.

Following the chairman's address the attention switched immediately to the highlight of the night for most, the awards presentation for the 2009 season. Starting at the youngest age group, Enda McNally was first to receive an award when he was presented with the Under 16 Player Of The Year accolade by special guest Fr Oliver Crilly PP, for his performances in our Under 16s run to the Championship final where they were narrowly defeated by Banagher.

The minor player of the year presentation was next, with the joint award of the newly commissioned Louis McAlynn Memorial Trophy, donated by the McAlynn family in memory of our esteemed former player, referee and club member who died during the year, being presented to Gary O'Neill and Stefan Lynn by Louis's son and current player Damian. The Declan Toner Memorial trophy for Most Improved Reserve Player was presented to John Loughlin by Marie Toner, while last year's senior and reserve managers Hugh Mulholland and Jude Donnelly presented Fergal Clarke with the Reserve Player of the year award.

The final and main playing award went to Brian McCallion, when he won the Barry O'Neill Memorial Senior Player of the Year, adding to his All-Ireland Intermediate 7s Player of the Tournament award he picked up during the year. Brian was presented with the award by Brigid O'Neill.

Harry Tohill and Paddy McErlean were given a small token of appreciation for their work as the club's referees, while Brigid O'Neill and Marie Toner were presented with a bouquet of flowers from the club in appreciation for their help.

The presentation ceremony was then completed when Fr Crilly presented Sheila Kearney with the prestigious club person of the year trophy, for her dedicated and continued work for the club over many years, a well deserved and fitting award.

The club and committee would like to thank special guest Fr Oliver Crilly, all those who attended the night, the caterers for the lovely buffet, the band and DJ who provided the music late into the night for all to enjoy, and all those who helped make the night such a great success. More photos from the night are available on the club website.
