Road Race and Fun Run a great success

Brilliant turn out for Road Race, Fun Run and Walk around Greenlough All Finishing times for both races/walk now added

As the rain cleared and stayed away for the evening, almost 160 runners and walkers took part in the first Greenlough GAC 6 Mile Road Race and 3 Mile Fun Run/Walk on Wednesday 9th June 2010.

In a joint venture between St Oliver Plunkett's GAC and St Columba's Camogie Club, with almost 70 runners in the Road Race and the rest taking part in the Fun Run and Walk, it was a great family and community event for many locals and those from further a field, while the group of elite athletes from near and far produced some very strong running to finish in impressive times in the Road Race.

The winner of the Men's Open 6 Mile Road Race was Matt Wray of Ballymena and Antrim Athletics Club, in a time of 33 minutes and 14 seconds; in second place was Alex Brennan of Ballymena Runners (35.08), with Kieran O'Donnell of Moneyglass (Ballymena and Antrim Athletics Club) coming in 3rd in a time of 36.03.

In the ladies Open Road Race, Fiona Crozier in a time of 45.18 was first to finish, with Greenlough Parishioner Brenda McDonnell finishing second 20 seconds later.

Brian McCallion took the men's 3 Mile Fun Run in a time of 22 minutes and 41 seconds; with Tara Lynn taking the Ladies 3 Mile Fun run in a time of 28.29.

Congratulations to all the winners, and thanks to all those who took part and made the event such a great success. Thanks to all the stewards and helpers and everyone who helped on the day, especially the organising committee of Adrian McErlean, Vincent McDonnell and Fintan McErlean for their hard work in making the event happen and attracting so many to attend.

After the great success we hope to make the Road Race and Fun Run an annual event; with prizes for even more categories and attract even more participants.
