Reserves win well despite failing to score in final 15 minutes
More photos from the game available here: ACFL Div 2 Reserves V Criagbane Our Reserves got back to action after a month's break, with their league game away to Craigbane on Sunday afternoon, 25th July 2010. As the final score would suggest this was a one-sided affair throughout, straight from the throw in. It took Greenlough only 20 seconds to register the first point of the game, when John Loughlin pointed well from the left. Within a minute Stefan Lynn and Brian McPeake had also scored to give the visitors a very early 3 point lead. When Gary McPeake was fouled Stefan Lynn pointed his second of the day from the resulting free in the 4th minute, before the game was almost killed off as a contest before passing the 5 minute mark when Paul Quinn blasted to the net following good work from Gary and Stefan in the build up. Brian McPeake pointed from the placed ball in the 9th minute, before a point a piece for Paul Quinn and Robert McAllister in the 11th and 14th saw the Greenlough lead up to 10 by the mid point of the first half. Craigbane finally opened their scoring with a pointed free in the 15th minute, only for Brian McPeake to point, again from a free, moments later. Two further points from Brian in the next two minutes saw the lead increase yet further, before Craigbane managed their second of the day in the 21st minute. It was left to Stefan Lynn to receive a pass from Gary McPeake and blast over for the half's final score, ensuring Greenlough lead by 12 at the break. Half-Time: Craigbane 0-02 Greenlough 1-11 It looked as though Greenlough would continue at the beginning of the second half the way they finished the first, but a couple of early chances were wasted with the ball going wide on both occasions. It was however the St Oliver Plunketts men that would score next, when Robert McAllister received a pass from Fergal Clarke and shot over for a well taken point. Stefan Lynn's pointed free following a foul on Brian McPeake saw the lead at 14 by the 6th minute of the second period, before Fergal Clarke hit over from an acute angle to push Greenlough even further ahead a minute later. Two further points soon followed for the visitors, Stefan Lynn with a great point from 30 meters, before Robert McAllister got a second after picking up a half blocked shot and firing over. When Eugene O'Neill's shot on goal was half blocked in the 11th minute, Gary McPeake was on hand to pick up the rebound and make no mistake, firing past the helpless keeper. Greenlough's lead was now up to 20, but they then failed to score for the remaining 25 minutes of the game despite having and wasting a number of good goal scoring chances. Craigbane did hit 3 pointed frees before the final whistle, however it made little difference as Greenlough emerged comfortable victors.
