Our Under 16s started a week of championship action involving our underage teams with a trip to Derry City to face Steelstown in the Quarter-Finals of All-County 15-a-side Championship on Thursday evening, 29th July 2010.

Both sides took some time to settle, as there were a number of wides recorded at each end of the field in the opening few minutes before Christopher Bradley swept over the game's opening score in the 7th; converting a '45 meter free after Paul Tohill's shot had been pushed over the end line by a Steelstown defender.

Christopher then added a goal to his point when he played a quick one two with Niall Loughlin before firing pass the helpless the keeper. Steelstown then hit back with their first score of the game with a point directly from the kick-out, only for Caolan Diamond to respond within a minute with a second point for the visitors.

Just as Christopher had followed his point with a goal, Caolan repeated the feat with a well taken goal when his lobbed shot caught out the keeper and he found the back of the net. Again Brian Ogs hit back with a point of their own immediately following the goal.

When Robert Kelly's pass found Matthew Bradley in space, and Matthew pointed, Greenlough lead was back up to seven with just over five minutes of normal time remaining in the opening half. However, despite dominating for a high percentage of the opening period, the gap was down to just three when Steelstown hit a goal and a point in less than a minute.

Greenlough didn't panic, and a point each from Michael J Henry and Caolan Diamond saw the lead back up to five heading into the break; with St Oliver Plunketts even almost registering a third goal, but for a good save from Paul Tohill's shot on goal.
Half-Time: Steelstown 1-03 Greenlough 2-05

The home side came out the stronger at the beginning of the second half, and were unlucky to score just two points in the opening seven minutes having created a number of other scoring chances as well. This sparked Greenlough into life somewhat and Matthew Bradley soon had his side's first of the second half, when combining well with Paul Tohill he fired over a minute later.

Having survived another goal scare at one end, Steelstown capitalised on the mistake by pointing at the other from a free, closing the gap once more. However, this would be as close as the home side would get to their visitors for the rest of the game.
Greenlough went on to hit seven points with reply in the next 10 minutes. Pointed frees from Paul Tohill and Niall Loughlin were followed by a great score from captain Robert Kelly from 30 meters. Christopher Bradley's second point of the day followed when the keeper did well to tip his dipping shot over the bar, before Caolan Diamond combined with Paul Tohill for his third a final point of the game.

Paul then turned from provider to scorer when he received a great pass from Christopher Bradley before chipping over despite being under pressure. Robert Kelly then repeated his long distance scoring when he pointed from almost the same spot as his first.

Steelstown then hit back with their final point of the game with only a minute of normal time remaining, but their was still time for Paul Tohill to add another to his total, again from a Christopher Bradley pass, and then Michael J Henry to complete the scoring when he received a pass from Caolan Diamond and fired over from an acute angle to ensure the victory and passage to the Semi-final.
